This article is aiming to teach you the basics of using Yahoo answers (or any of the main question & answer sites around) for promoting your website effectively. While this doesn't contain all the possible methods, it has some tips and tricks in order to avoid your answer being marked as spam by community members and to help you bring quality, targeted traffic to your websites.
As a requirement for this article I am assuming you, the reader, have already created a yahoo id. You must fill in all the possible details on your profile in yahoo. This will help increase your level of trust from the yahoo community moderators.
Let’s start:
Head over to the all category list and select the appropriate category in which you find yourself most comfortable with. I would imagine the “computers and internet” section will be the easiest for the majority of you. Once you select it, you will see all the open questions at the moment along with the sub-categories it has. Now try to answer each of those questions using sound spelling and grammar. Be as descriptive as possible. Do not try to link any contents from your website just yet. The links you post will not be hyperlinked and it has very little value for you. Once you have obtained level 2 status you will be able to post links which will be hyperlinked. When you give answers note down the answers you write on a notepad file or similar, we will need them later.
Keep on answering until your limit is met. The next day login again and post some more answers until your limit is met. Now after that: Go to your Yahoo answers profile (note: not your yahoo profile) and click on my answers. There you will be able to see all the questions for which you have answered.
The above screenshot is the layout of the list of questions you have answered. Now if you check the list, at the end of each question it say something like, “Open”, “Resolved”, “In Voting” & “Best answer”.
- Open: Open means that question is still open for the answers.
- Resolved: The best answer for the question is selected (Either by voting or manually selected by the asker).
- In Voting: There are one or more best answers, or the person who posted the question didn’t select the best answer. Yahoo answers then looks for other community members to vote for the best answer.
- Best Answer: This means your answer has been selected as the best answer for the question.
Check for all the questions which have the status of “In Voting”. Open all those questions with this status and check for your answer there. For questions in Voting, the author of the answer will not be displayed. So if you have noted down your answer as I told you to do so before, you will be able to identify which is answer is yours and you can vote for yourself for the best answer.
Most of the time nobody votes for answers and most probably you will win the best answer with that one vote you gave. That means 10 points.
Try to do this every day if possible. Once you reach level 2, you will notice that the links you give will be hyperlinked and will be counted as backlinks. Now you can give those links in both the source section and in the answer as well. Try to give all the links you are promoting in the source section as it is the best practice in the answer community. If there are too many links in the answer body, the moderators will mark it as spam which is not good for your profile on Yahoo.
A few things to be careful about:
- Never try to answer for illegal questions. You will be wasting your time as yahoo will delete those questions in most cases. Illegal questions may include things such as: asking for serial keys, how to download pirated movies, how to crack this application, how to download songs free etc.
- If you don’t know the answer to a question, don’t answer it. You have a ratio on your profile for the answer & best answers. The greater your best answer percentage, the more people tend to select your answer as the best answer.
- Always go to yahoo answers (global) home to answer questions. If you go to the uk version- Yahoo.co.uk, for example, some of the questions from other parts of the world will not be listed.
